March 2017 Newsletter: Celebrating 15 Years!

Cloud 19 is celebrating 15 years (wow!) as a digital media lab specializing in creative and technical services for filmmakers, home entertainment studios and distributors. We’ve been up to quite a bit since the start of the year, so read on for a quick recap and be sure to take a look at our portfolio to see our latest work.

4K UHD Blu-ray Services
We’ve been busy gearing up for 4K Ultra HD (UHD) Blu-ray compression, authoring, and menu design, which we’re excited to add to our list of services.
The trend for 4K UHD as a home entertainment format is on the rise and is likely to reach mass market adoption this year according to new data from Futuresource Consulting. Independent and major studios are increasing the number of titles they’re releasing in this format due to the demand for a higher quality viewing experience, the prominent sales of 4K UHD TVs in 2016, and hype about the potential release of an Apple TV capable of playing 4K content.

The 89th Academy Awards
Three of the projects we’re currently wrapping up were nominated for the 89th Academy Awards! Congratulations to LionsgateThe Weinstein Company, and Magnolia Pictures for their highly successful releases!
lionsgate.pngAfter breaking the record for most Golden Globes won by a movie, La La Land was nominated for 14 Academy Awards, tying with Titanic and All Above Eve for the most nominations of all time. It was also the first film to win an Oscar for Best Picture, and then have it abruptly taken away…but that’s okay! Six Oscars later, we are still extremely excited for Lionsgate and cannot wait to reveal some of our work on the Home Entertainment release of this film. Fun fact: Lionsgate’s release has grossed $405 million worldwide with a $30 million production budget.
the_weinstein_group.pngAustralian biographical film Lion was nominated for six Oscars, and has won a total of 30 awards since its initial release in 2016. We recently finished designing menus and authoring the DVD and Blu-ray of the film, which will be available to purchase in April 2017. Fun fact: The Weinstein Company’s release only had a production budget of $12 million, but has earned $103 million worldwide since its debut in November 2016.
magnolia.pngI Am Not Your Negro was nominated for “Best Documentary Feature” in this year’s Academy Awards, and has taken home 12 wins since its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2016. We’re wrapping up QC of the critically acclaimed documentary, which is set to be released on DVD and Blu-ray in May 2017. Fun fact: Magnolia Pictures’ release had an estimated production budget of $300 thousand and has earned about $5.5 million since early February.

CBS TV Shows

We produced special features for the Season 6 DVD/Blu-ray box sets of two popular television shows on CBS, Hawaii Five-0 and Blue Bloods. Since then, we have been capturing stunts, behind the scenes footage and shooting interviews for the Season 7 box sets, and have been fortunate enough to be awarded with another hit show, MacGyver!
CBS TV Shows
MacGyver, a popular revival of the classic action-adventure drama that originally aired from 1985-1992, is another CBS show that we’re producing content for in preparation for the release of the Season 1 DVD/Blu-ray box sets. These three shows are dominating Friday night primetime ratings, and we can’t wait to show you our finished work later in the year!

Stay tuned for more updates in our April 2017 newsletter!
